04 / IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES

A STORY YOU CAN
STEP INSIDE
.

We combine moving image, sound and lighting to create experiences shaped around a space and its visitors. For museums, exhibitions, attractions and events, we develop ideas that help people explore a story, encounter something unexpected or take part.

FROM WATCHING.
TO BEING THERE.

A NEW DIMENSION FOR BIG SKY.

A projected scene shifts as someone enters. A soundscape reveals another layer. Light draws attention to a story in the room. We bring film, light and sound into a responsive environment, with the visitor as part of what happens next.

01 / MOVING IMAGE

Projection & Visual Storytelling

Content shaped for walls, scenic surfaces and exhibition spaces. Build atmosphere or reveal a story in the place where people experience it.

02 / ATMOSPHERE

Light & Soundscapes

Light, recorded voices and environmental sound working with the visual content to shape the rhythm and feeling of a space.

03 / PRESENCE

Visitor Response

Moments triggered by someone entering or moving within a space. Interaction should serve the story, and be understandable without a set of instructions.

04 / DEVELOPMENT

Ideas, Tests & Prototypes

Explore what is possible at a scale that can be tested. Develop the creative idea alongside the practical requirements of the venue and audience.

AN IDEA.
BROUGHT TO LIFE.

Studio Research & Development

Studio prototype visualisation — a miner responds to an arriving visitor.

Built and tested with people in our Barnsley studio, this working mining prototype brings together projection, directional audio and practical lighting to create an environment that responds to its visitors.

Two projected scenes unfold independently across adjoining walls, with different activity happening in each. Directional audio places sounds within the space, drawing attention to the action and adding to the feeling of being inside the mine. Practical lighting extends the atmosphere beyond the projections and into the room itself.

When someone enters, the miner pauses his work and turns towards them, making their presence part of the story. Testing with participants helps us refine how the scenes, sound, lighting and interaction work together, and understand what makes the experience convincing.

Supported by Arts Council England, this project is part of our research and development into immersive storytelling and its potential for museums, visitor attractions and exhibitions.

THE SPACE NOTICES YOU.

01

Waiting

Light, sound and a visual scene establish the world before someone approaches.

A Visitor Enters

An agreed trigger starts a change in the projected content, sound or light.

03

A voice, image or moment gives the visitor something new to discover.
